Nyfiken på Jacques Vapillon - seglingsfotograf

Jacques Vapillon är en av de stora franska fotograferna. Han läste vid Plymouth?s College of Art & Design, och bor nu i Trinite sur Mer. Han samarbetar nära med DPPI (som Benoit Stichhelbaut och Jean-Marie Liot). Se några av hans bästa bilder.

At a time when digital photgraphy seems to be available to everyone, the attentive work of B&W developers with their range of masks, and the magic of solarisation, is for many of us something from another age, while others heve never even heard of it.

Only the true professional, with his technichal skill, his attetive eye and the matery of his subject can provide us with accomplished work based on his know-how.

In this series taken on board Marc Guillemot?s 60? IMOCA boat, Safran, in some weather conditions that was not exactly favourable for action photgraphy (winds below 10 knots), the stress had to be on the dynamic shot itself. Part of the session was in B&W. The result frees us from colour photography, so the eye just concentrates on the perspective, the shadow and light effects, and quite simply the graphic beaty. It was hard work getting this solarised B%W picture with a grain of TriX but everything was digital without any chemistry.
